Behind the Scenes: In the Factory
December 29, 2015
Parker Dusseau is based on a few core foundations; living an active and stylish lifestyle, taking control of work and recreation, and creating and using products with ethical creation.
I got the chance to visit the factory where all Parker Dusseau garments are created. It didn't take a flight that went halfway around the world, rather every jacket, shirt and pair of pants is handcrafted walking distance from my home, across the street from where I ate dinner the other week, around the corner from the headquarters of San Francisco's largest newspaper...
Made in the USA is a value many have come to recognize, but like many, I didn't recognize the greater implications of this acknowledgment until I saw it with my own eyes. While it was refreshing to know my clothing was made so close to home, it was even more reassuring to see the women and men smiling and chatting as they sewed, stitched and attached buttons to Utility Travel Blazers.
The economic reasons for American made products are clear, though it is the less tangible feeling of community that is truly powerful. Whatever the product may be, it is formidable to know that I could meet its maker in passing at any moment, and that it didn't go far to wind up in my possession.
